Abstract

AbstractThe aqueous extract of marine brown seaweed, Stoechospermum marginatum was used for the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles. The silver nanoparticles were formed due to the bio-reduction of silver nitrate to aqueous silver ions in the presence of seaweed extract. The synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopyand Atomic Force Microscope (AFM).The synthesised silver nanoparticles have shown moderate antioxidant activity. This method of AgNPs synthesis does not use any toxic reagents and thus has potential for use in biomedical application. Keywords: Seaweed, Silver nanoparticles,Antioxidant activity
