Abstract

In present time the technology of CNC vertical milling machine has been improved significantly to meet the advance requirements in various manufacturing fields, in which the major contribution is of biomedical field, automobile field and aerospace industries, so while machining to get better surface finish generally lubrication method is used, which also helps to maintain the temperature near interface of tool and workpiece. If the traditional cooling method is used in the machining for that amount of fluid required more than sufficient and if we will not able to dispose it properly. It may harmful to the environment as well as to the human life. To reduce the amount of fluid MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubrication) method is used for cooling. It helps eliminates quantities of water and mineral oil-based cutting fluids and replaces them with a small quantity of environment-friendly lubricant (mostly vegetable oils) mixed with air. In MQL based machining the amount (50–100 mL/h) of cutting fluid is introduced to the chip-tool interface region by using compressed air, which also acts as the carrier medium, as a replacement for several amount of liters per hour of wet lubrication technique. For that in this experiment we compare the results of dry wet and MQL lubricating methods in the form of temperature and surface finish. This experiment is done on Vertical milling machine by using the Aluminium 7075 as a work piece material. Aluminium 7075 is selected due to its high strength, low density and thermal properties which is vastly used in aircraft fittings, gears and shafts, etc. In this experiment we are going to use Taguchi for the design of experiment which is generally used for single optimization. To conclude the optimal solution for the process parameter selected by us set under dry, wet and MQL conditions we use the Grey Relational Analysis Method.
