Abstract

This study aims to compare temperature-regulated and uncontrolled charging methodologies to determine the most effective approach for optimizing battery performance while minimizing charging duration. The study assesses both constant current (CC) and temperature-controlled pulse charging (TRPC) methods. The battery temperature increases in direct proportion to the applied current during CC charging and cannot be controlled in the absence of external cooling systems. Key performance measures, such as the effect on the State of Health (SOH) and the anticipated battery longevity, are the main focus of the investigation. Simulations using 12.8 V, 40 Ah Lithium-Ion (LiFePO4) batteries show that improved temperature regulation significantly enhances charge acceptance without altering the charging rate. By maintaining optimal thermal conditions, battery efficiency and performance are increased, minimizing energy losses and potential thermal stress. This controlled environment ensures more stable electrochemical reactions, allowing the battery to accept higher charge levels within the same time frame. Such regulation plays a crucial role in prolonging battery lifespan, optimizing energy storage, and improving overall system reliability in real-world applications.
