Abstract

Load frequency control (LFC) is known to be significant control strategy for operation in electric power grid that entails balancing the electrical power provided by power plants with the electrical power consumed by the load. The primary purpose of LFC is to ensure that the power system functions within a specific frequency range and that the power provided by power plants matches the power used by the load. Power system network being sensitive to load changes or weather conditions there is requirement of robust solutions, also there are constraints like generator capacity, voltage limits of lines to be satisfied in power systems hence feasible solutions must be looked upon.Hence there is requirement of optimization. The evolutionary algorithm technique is utilized for optimization of parameters of Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) in this work. The MATLAB Simulink software is used for model design to & check the load frequency response. A comparative study between conventional method and heuristic method is done.
