Abstract

In this study, the modelling of a typical hydroelectric power plant with a high-water head and a long penstock is developed and implemented in MATLAB/Simulink. The proposed simulation system's models are created in a sophisticated way to allow for easy reuse. To compute and simulate hydraulic transients, the nonlinear properties of the hydraulic turbine, such as the elasticity of the penstock and the water hammer effect, were taken into account. Additionally, in order to determine how well a hydraulic turbine system performs dynamically, the effects of several parameters, including water time constants, water compressibility, and the impact of surge tanks, are also studied.
