Adoption of Managerial Skills for Strengthening Civil Engineering Construction and Infrastructural Development in Nigeria

Abstract

Managerial economy is vital for environmental and national development. Infrastructure development is that the basis of measuring the performance of democratic leaders and the inspiration of excellent democratic governance. This paper examined infrastructural development in Nigeria with in view of incorporating managerial skills for optimal performance. Challenges and way forward were checked for effective and efficient delivery of projects. Government has the facility to place in situ all measures that it deems fit will make an environment conducive for living for everyone. Infrastructure development in democratic governance involves identifying the right project, completing feasibility and viability studies and completing physical development of the project. It has been observed that most projects failed due to inadequate planning. The challenges are numerous and include finance, technology for development, maintenance and style. The challenges also include international requirements of project to be sustainably developed. Projects must meet adequate standards and functionality with best practices orientation and workmanship. The challenges are many but any serious government can overcome them as results of incessant research and development in infrastructure development worldwide. Precise comprehension of the contract documents is critical to ensure that all important contractual requirements of the project scope are captured and managed. Adoption of managerial skills at all level will promote timely delivery of project without extra budget and cost overrun.
