Abstract

The research on the effect of locally sourced raw materials effectiveness to enhance remediation of crude oil polluted soil environment using moringa seed shell in powdered form, yeast and NPK in swampy and clay Soil (moringa oleifera) and elephant grass in powdered form, yeast and NPK in swampy soil (pennisetum purpureum) was studied. Experimental investigation was conducted to determine the performance of both locally sourced raw materials for crude oil remediation. The physiochemical parameters of the crude oil, moringa seed shell in powdered form, yeast and NPK in swampy soil (moringa oleifera) powder form, elephant grass in powdered form, yeast and NPK in swampy Soil (pennisetum purpureum), and soil were determined as well as the possiblemicroorganisms present. The degradation of the crude oil was monitored with period of exposure and the specific rate of substrate degradation was evaluated for each of the experimental set-up. The obtained results were used to determine the maximum specific rates, disassociation constant as well as the kinetic values in terms of first and second order kinetic. The application of Lineweaver Buck plot was considered for the various reactors and the maximum specific rate of substrate degradation and disassociation constant was evaluated and determined for both Moringa Seed Shell in powdered form, yeast and NPK in swampy soil (moringa olefara) and elephant grass in powdered form, yeast and NPK in swampy soil (pennisetum purpureum) materials including reactors with the addition of the nutrient supplement (NKP and yeast).
