Abstract

The most important phase in web communication in Internet is, that each computer connected must have an identifiable number which is called as IP. IP, Internet Protocol address is a unique Id assigned to each device. This study explains the impact on IoT on transition from IPv4 to IPv6. In general, we have two versions of IP which are used world widely on the Internet. IPv4 is the first version that is used widely in most of the websites on the Internet. It has a 32-bit size and can hold up to 2^32 numbers. IPv4 has a limited number of IP addresses which could not reach the demands and requirements of modern technologies and security access. Thus, being replaced by latest version, which is IPv6, contains 128-bit size and can hold up to 2^128 numbers. It helps in increasing capacity and security. As for these advantages, IPv6 plays an important role in development of IoT mainly due to its complex nature and space. Some of the transition techniques are Dual-Stack, Tunneling and NAT-PT. In this study we will be comparing these various techniques and derive the best technique for performing transition.
