Abstract

When all-terrain vehicle came in dynamic condition steering and suspension geometry, it affected the vehicle stability. This stability limits the speed and comfort of the vehicle. Stability is more required in all-terrain vehicles because they have to wear more dynamic force; if vehicle will be unstable then failure will occur; it also decreases the ergonomics and comfort of the driver, so it is mandatory that vehicle should have proper geometry with respect to steering and suspension. This alignment or correct geometry of suspension and steering may be gained with help of hub and upright called wheel assembly. Upright consists of suspension geometry like caster angle, king pin inclination and knuckle arm angle. This geometry decides the vehicle stability in straight or at the turning time and hub helps to stabilize it and keep it attached to wheel. Our concern is to design, analyze and optimize the hub and upright assembly for the all-terrine Baja vehicle. Baja SAE India is an inter-college international competition which provides a platform for under graduate students to challenge themselves to fabricate an optimized design and work in challenging environment. For fabrication, first we make a basic design and analyze it in static condition, after that according to the analysis, optimization is done. Thesis will clear each and every point that should be considered for a correct geometry of suspension and steering. We will use lotus shark for suspension geometry which will give initial points as upper suspension point, lower suspension point and knuckle point; with the help of these points the product will be designed in solid works 2010. After designing the product, analysis is done in Ansys 14.0. While completing the basic step one of the important step optimization will be followed. It will reduce the material and cost without affecting the factor of safety or strength.
