Abstract

Tyres play a commanding role in an automobile industry. Balancing and safety of the vehicle are the primary issues for automobile industry. These two parameters are highly dependent on the uniformity and strength of the tyres. There are various criteria that affect tyres uniformity and strength. Consequently, selection of tyres is a Multi-criteria Decision Making (MCDM) problem. In that respect are many methods available for selection of tyres; however, this paper targets to explore the applicability of AHP (Analytic Hierarchical Process) to solve R14-tyre selection problem. AHP is a method that assists in choosing best alternatives by pair-wise comparison of each alternative and their criteria expressed as a matrix. In this work, synthesized priority of the R14-tyres and organize priorities of the R14-tyres with respect to each criteria in matrix is presented. After that, each column of the alternatives is multiplied as per the priority of the corresponding criteria and finally the ranks are evaluated by adding each row. The pair-wise comparisons are made with the standard scale, on the basis of given criteria, which conclude how much one alternative is more important than other. Uniformity and strength parameters have been discussed and it concludes with the selection of R14-tyres on the basis of this methodology.
