Abstract

Internal Combustion Engines are used in many applications. In the present competitive world, the Automotive Sector which is rapidly growing up with the use of four-stroke I C engine. Hence in this report the work on W-9 engine is considered. Here, the design of W-9 engine is developed for increasing power of engine and also reducing the cost of manufacturing in an automobile sector. In this thesis, the design of an internal combustion four-stroke engine is analyzed in the following area it was concluded that a unique engine configuration could be made a W-9 engine (a nine cylinder engine with three cylinder rows). This W-9 engine includes many attractive properties, such as: high efficiency, a compact and stiff engine block as well as a rigid crank shaft. The whole engine was modelled in CATIA software. The engine machining was performed completely balanced with no shaking force and no coupling moment, it was possible to construct and build an automotive engine from scratch, in a comparable short time frame. This project discusses modern design approaches. Engine weight reduction can also be achieved through substituting large and therefore, heavy engines with small high performance engines. Modern technologies applied to existing engine concepts increase the power–weight ratio, the engine's capability and therefore, its marketing value. New lightweight design strategies allow a significant reduction of engine mass compared to conventional concepts and represent an important contribution to reduce the overall vehicle weight.
