Abstract

Electric three-wheelers or e-rickshaws in a very short span have emerged as a economic and environment friendly mode of public road transport in India. Their numbers has increased exponentially in the absence of organized players and no government policy. Local manufactures prepare designs according to the market needs neglecting the safety and technical aspects and thus putting the life of users and other road commuters in danger. This research paper aims to undertake a comprehensive study of the technical faults & safety aspects that exists in the existing E Rickshaw with the help of the primary data obtained through the actual user, workshop and suppliers. Based on the feedback of the market survey major flaws and faults were identified. Ways to rectify or nullify these faults is provided. Further improvement in the existing E rickshaw is suggested for making it more users friendly. The study has been made in and around National Capital Region. According to the findings buyers expect E rickshaw be improved in areas of torque or load carrying capacity (40%), Starting torque / pickup (30%), Speed variation (15%) which acts their first choice for improvement. Jerk start (28%), low speed (27%) & low pick up (15%) are some of the problem faced by the actual users.  The paper also provides information about the available new technologies and tries to identify the technical challenges with their solutions for its implementation.
