Simultaneous Estimation of Atenolol and Nifedipine to be incorporated in Buccal Patch: Method Development and Validation by UV-Spectrophotometric ApproachBy Amit B. Patil, Sanjivi Kudtarkar, R. Narayana Charyulu, Sandeep Singh
Abstract: A simple, precise, accurate and reproducible spectrophotometric method has been developed for the simultaneous estimation of Atenolol and Nifedipine. Atenolol and Nifedipine are used in combined dosage form for cardiovascular diseases. Hence, it is necessary to develop a method to analyze the two drugs simultaneously by UV-spectroscopic method. Simulated salivary fluid of pH 6.8 was used as the medium. Simultaneous equation method was developed as per ICH guidelines. The absorption …

Formulation Development of Antihypertensive Buccal Patches and CharacterisationBy Amit B. Patil, Sanjivi Kudtarkar
Abstract: Buccal patches containing atenolol and nifedipine were fabricated from mucoadhesive polymers like chitosan and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) 15CPS for the purpose of prolonging drug release and improving their bioavailability. The fabricated films were smooth, uniform and the colour was brown with good flexibility. The weight and thickness of all the formulations were found to be uniform. The drug content was in the range of 95–98%, indicating drug uniformity. Swelling index …
