Studies on Mechanical, Optical, Barrier Properties and Characterization of LDPE-PLA Blend Films with Micro ClayBy S Soundararajan, D K Thirumalazhagan, S K Nayak
Abstract: Low density poly ethylene (LDPE) and Poly lactic acid (PLA) in the ratio of 70:30 wt% were blended along with ethylene glycidyl meth acrylate (EGMA) as compatibilizer (2.5%), benzophenone as photodegradable additive (1%) and microclay (1,3,5%) as filler. Blending took place in a twin-screw extruder and then the resulting blend was processed into a film using blown film extrusion. Mechanical, optical, barrier and degradative properties of film were tested as …

Studies on Mechanical, Thermal, Physical Properties and Characterisation of PLA-EVA Blend with Microclay and Product DevelopmentBy M Selvam, S Soundararajan, S. K. Nayak
Abstract: PLA-EVA (70:30 wt. %) with microclay (1, 3, 5 wt. %) was also melt blended using Glycerol (1%) was used as compatibilizer in a twin screw compounding extruder. Then test specimens were prepared by an injection molding machine. Mechanical, thermal and physical properties were evaluated. As microclay content was increased, the tensile strength, elongation at break and tensile modulus were slightly decreased but higher than that of PLA-EVA (30 wt. …

STUDIES ON MECHANICAL, OPTICAL AND BARRIER PROPERTIES OF LOW DENSITY POLY ETHYLENE WITH MICRO CLAYBy S Soundararajan, GOKULANANDHAN V, KALAIVANAN M, SUNDERASAN L, VEERAMANI T, NAYAK Sanjay K
Abstract: LDPE (Low density Poly ethylene) was melt blended with micro clay (0.5, 1, 3 & 5 wt%) by using a twin screw compounding extruder. Tubular blown film was taken using a tubular blown film extruder. Mechanical, optical and barrier properties were evaluated. The following trend was observed as the micro clay concentration was increased: The tensile strength was increased by 18% in machine direction (M/D) and decreased by 36% in …

STUDIES ON MECHANICAL, THERMAL AND PERMEATION PROPERTIES OF HDPE (BLOW GRADE) WITH MICROSILICA CLAYBy S Soundararajan, K. Shreeram, S K Nayak
Abstract: HDPE is widely used in container applications. The mechanical properties and barrier properties can be further improved by the addition of reinforcements like nanoclays. But, however the cost of nanoclays are higher about Rs.5000 – 6000/kg whereas micro silica cost is economical about Rs.450-1000/kg. Hence we used micro silica of 270nm particle size in this project with HDPE blow grade. HDPE (High density polyethylene) was melt blended with micro silica …

Studies on Mechanical, Thermal Properties, Characterization and UV-Accelerated Weathering of HIPS-PLA Blends using Glycerol as CompatibilizerBy S Soundararajan, B Dinesh
Abstract: AbstractHIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) was blended with PLA (poly lactic acid) in three formulations as 80:20, 65:35 and 50:50% (wt%) using a twin screw extruder and by using glycerol (4%) as compatibilizer. Test specimens were prepared by using an injection moulding machine and the mechanical, thermal and electrical properties were determined. The tensile strength first decreases and then increases with increasing percentage of PLA, but lower than that of both …
