Evaluation of Anti-Oxidant Properties of Lemon Grass Essential Oil in Inhibiting Corrosion of Mild SteelBy S. Halilu, B. O. Atolaiye, T. Nafi’u, B. Alhassan
Abstract: Lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus) essential oil was extracted by hydrodistillation method, using all glass Clevenger apparatus. The essential oil obtained was used as inhibitor (anti-oxidant) to inhibit the corrosion of mild steel in acid and alkaline media. Samples of mild steel were exposed to acid and alkaline media in the absence of inhibitor and their corrosion rates were evaluated. Subsequently, other samples of the same mild steel were exposed to …

Corrosion Inhibition of Mild Steel in Acidic Medium using Essential Oil of Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) as InhibitorBy S. Halilu, B. O. Atolaiye, U. Bala, A. H. Gumel, N. I. Soba
Abstract: This research work deployed a weight loss technique in evaluating the feasibility and efficiency of using essential oil of clove as corrosion inhibitor due to its anti-oxidant properties. Prepared sample of mild steel was exposed to acidic medium in the absence of inhibitor and the corrosion rate was evaluated. Subsequently, other samples of the same mild steel were exposed to acidic environment in the presence of varied concentrations of the …

Production and Characterisation of Bio-ethanol from Sweet Sorghum JuiceBy B. liman, S. Halilu
Abstract: Sweet sorghum stalks obtained from local market in Zamfara State were evaluated for bioethanol production. The process is considered to be economically feasible considering the percentage yield of sweet sorghum juice obtained from the stalks which was eventually converted to bio-ethanol through fermentation and distillation. The bio-ethanol obtained in the process was analyzed and the properties are compared with the standard specifications set by Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON). Most …
