Synthesis and Characterization of Bamboo-Supported Nano Zerovalent Iron (NZVI-AB) for Cr(VI) Sequestration

Abstract: Remediation of chromium contaminated sites present both technological and economic challenges, as conventional methods are often too expensive and difficult to operate. In this study, bamboo supported Zero-valent iron (Fe0) nanoparticles were synthesized, characterized, and were tested for removal of Cr(VI). Fe0 nanoparticles were synthesized by the reduction of ferric chloride with avocado polyphenols and characterized by FTIR (Fourier transform infrared) spectroscopy and XRD (X-ray diffraction). Batch experiments were performed …

Synthesis and Characterization of Green Synthesized Iron Nano Particle (GInP) Using Eucalyptus globulus for Lead Removal

Abstract: The application of green synthesized iron nanoparticle for the removal of lead is researched in this study. The FT-IR and XRD results reveal that a nanoparticle with 80 nm size could be synthesized using Eucalyptus globulus leaf extract. The specific surface area of the nanoparticle was found to be 59 m2/g. The lead removal capability of the green synthesized iron nanoparticle (GInP) was investigated for lead concentration ranging from 50–250 …

Utilization of the Brewer’s Spent Grain for Lactic acid production: Acid hydrolysis and submerged fermentation

Abstract: The production of Lactic acid from Brewery Spent Grain using Lactobacillus plantarum ATCC 8014. was carried out in this study. Box Behnken Design (BBD) (Design expert® 7 software) was used to investigate the effect of temperature, reaction time and acid concentration during the hydrolysis. Fermentation of the hydrolyzate was performed at 35 °C, pH 5.0-5.5 and 200 rpm for 72 h.

Rice Husk Energy Content Enhancement by the Torrefaction Process: Characterization and Statistical Studies

Abstract: Torrefaction is the partial pyrolysis of biomass at atmospheric pressure, in an inert environment. The objective of this study is to torrefy the rice husk of Ethiopian origin in order to enhance its energy density. The optimum torrefaction temperature, holding time, and acid concentration were investigated in this study by the three-level-three-factor Box-Behnken Design (BBD) using the Design-Expert 7.0.0 software.

Sequestration of Cr(VI) by the Activated Carbon prepared from Coffee husk(CHAC)

Abstract: The potential of Coffee husks for the production of a low-cost activated carbon (CHAC) was investigated in this study. During the synthesis of the adsorbent, the concentration of the activating agent (H3PO4), impregnation ratio, carbonization temperature and holding time were optimized by Response Surface Method (RSM) using Box-Behnken design. Further, the application of coffee husk activated carbon for Cr (VI) adsorption from aqueous solution was investigated.

Gluconic acid production from cane molasses using Aspergillus carneus

Abstract: Gluconic acid is a multifunctional organic acid, non-volatile, non-corrosive, non-toxic, readily biodegradable, with environmentally friendly properties. In this study, gluconic acid was produced from the treated molasses using Aspergillus carneus strain under the submerged fermentation. The parameters were studied using the four-factor, three-level Box-Behnken design using using Design Expert ® version 11. The acid produced was characterized using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The optimum values of the parameters were …

Preparation of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) blended Lignocellulosic Composite

Abstract: AbstractHigh density polyethylene (HDPE) blended lignocellulosic bagasse composite are structural materials made from renewable resources. These materials are being researched and developed to replace less eco-friendly structural and non-structural materials used in the construction industry. The lignocellulosic-composites studied have the potential to be used for scaffolding, framework, flooring, walls and for many other applications within buildings, as well as for temporary construction. In this study, high density polyethylene (HDPE) blended …

An insight into the production of bioethanol from the unused Ethiopian waste potatoes

Abstract: The study provides an insight into the production of bioethanol from the unused Ethiopian waste potatoes. A pretreatment process was carried out to convert the potato starch into fermentable sugar through acid hydrolysis. The experimental parameters investigated during the hydrolysis were the temperature, liquid-solid ratio, and treatment time. Optimal values for hydrolysis were determined by the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) using Central Composite Design (CCD). The total reduced sugar content …
