Development of Polymer–Micro-Aluminum Composites for Lightweight Engineering ApplicationsBy P. Saravana Kumar, D. Sudha, Nantha Kumar P, N. Rajesh, T. Venkatamuni, Sivakumar A., J. Sharmila, Shailendra Kumar Bohidar, Zakir Hussain
Abstract: This research focuses on the systematic development of polymer–micro aluminum composites, with polypropylene (PP) and epoxy selected as representative polymer matrices. Micro aluminum fillers in the range of 5–25 wt.% were incorporated through melt blending (PP) and casting (epoxy), and the resulting composites were evaluated in terms of mechanical performance, microstructural integrity, and crystalline characteristics. Tensile strength of the composites increased significantly, from 31 MPa in neat PP to 44 …

Enhanced Mechanical and Tribological Performance of Magnesium–Boron Carbide Composites Fabricated via Stir Casting for Lightweight Structural ApplicationsBy P. Saravana Kumar, H. Vinoth Kumar, P. Pramerla, Bindu S S, G. Saveetha, Nellore Manoj Kumar, Avinash Kumar, M. Mathiyarasi
Abstract: This study investigates the fabrication and evaluation of properties of magnesium (Mg) matrix composites reinforced with boron carbide (B₄C) for lightweight structural applications. Stir casting was employed to incorporate B₄C particles at varying weight fractions (0%, 3%, 6%, and 9%) into the magnesium matrix. The influence of B₄C on density, porosity, hardness, tensile strength, and wear resistance was systematically examined. Theoretical density increased from 1.74 g/cm³ (pure Mg) to 1.88 …
