Formulation and Evaluation of Transdermal Drug Delivery of Piroxicam

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to formulate transdermal films loaded with Piroxicam (PX). Transdermal films were prepared by using sodium alginate (SA) and xanthan gum (XG) as biopolymers by varying the blend ratios viz., 10:0, 8:2, 6:4, 4:6 and 2:8 (w/w %) through solution casting method. The drug loaded membranes were evaluated for thickness, tensile behaviours, and content uniformity. In-vitro diffusion was determined by Franz diffusion cell. Piroxicam …

Preparation of Oral Gels Containing Ethanolic Extract of anacardiumoccidentale L and Characterization

Abstract: The anti-microbial activity of gel containing Anacardiumoccidentale L. leaf extract was investigated. A total of four formulations (ST1–ST4) and a control (without leaf extract) were prepared. All the formulations were evaluated for physical appearance and physical properties of gel like pH, viscosity, spreadability and extrudability. The results of all the physical parameters of the gel were found to be within the limits. All the four formulations including control were evaluated …

Development and Characterization of Mucoadhesive Microspheres Containing a Model Antidiabetic Drug

Abstract: The present work was envisaged to reduce the dosing frequency and improve patient compliance by designing and evaluating sustained release mucoadhesive (SRM) microspheres of metformin hydrochloride (MH) for an effective control of diabetes type-2. Microspheres were prepared by emulsification solvent evaporation method using sodium alginate, carbopol 934P (CP), and sodium carboxy methyl cellulose (SCMC) as a mucoadhesive polymers. The microspheres exhibits good mucoadhesive properties and showed high drug entrapment efficiency. …

Preparation and Characterization of Solid Dispersion of Tenoxicam

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to prepare solid dispersions of a poorly water-soluble drug Tenoxicam in Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), prepared by spray-drying techniques. The physicochemical properties of the solid dispersion and drug-polymer interactions were characterized by DSC, FT-IR, XRD and SEM. Tenoxicam was found amorphously dispersed in solid dispersion systems with the drug to polymer weight ratio of 1:3. Dissolution profile of the prepared solid dispersion was compared with …

Microsponges: A Novel Approach for Transdermal Delivery of Tolnaftate

Abstract: The present study was aimed at preparing tolnaftate-loaded microsponges and incorporating them into a topical formulation. Microsponge delivery system was chosen as it can increase the concentration of the drug on the superficial layer of the skin. Microsponges were prepared by quasi-emulsion technique. The studies like drug entrapment efficiency showed that the drug was completely entrapped within the pores of the microsponges. The microsponges were incorporated into the optimized carbopol …
