Abstract: AbstractOptical amplifiers boost the power of optical system without optoelectronics (O-E-O) conversion. The optical amplification process is accompanied by Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE) noise that accumulates along the transmission line and degrades the optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR).
