Evaluation of Heavy Metal Bioaccumulation by Phytoplankton and Water, Sombriero River, Port HarcourtBy Benjamin Bameyi Otene, O.M.G. Abu, Asawo M.C.
Abstract: The heavy metal bioaccumulation by phytoplankton and water in Sombriero River, Port Harcourt was determined. Heavy metals and phytoplankton samples were collected from four different locations using plastic bottles and plankton net of 55um mesh size between February and April,2020. Plankton and water samples collected from the locations were analyzed for phytoplankton and concentration of the five heavy metals, iron (Fe), copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb) and chromium (Cr) …

Geoenvironmental Evaluation and Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Sediment, Minichinda Stream, Port Harcourt, NigeriaBy Benjamin Bameyi Otene, Peace C. Nnadi
Abstract: The pollution status and risk assessment of the heavy metals in the sediment from Minichinda stream, Port Harcourt were studied. Sediment samples collected for twelve Months from four stations were analyzed for heavy metals using spectrophotometer as in the standard method. The mean values for the respective heavy metals (mg/kg) include Cd (0.496±0.20), Cr (0.460±0.17), Pb (0.469±0.20), Cu (0.738±0.26) and Fe (15.05). The spatial mean concentration of the metals varied …

Assessment of Metal Concentrations in Water from the Downstream Segment of New Calabar River, Port Harcourt Segment of New Calabar River, Port HarcourtBy Benjamin Bameyi Otene, Victoria Basoene Harry
Abstract: The downstream segment of the New Calabar River, Port Harcourt has been a major source of water and sea foods for the inhabitants. The concentration of heavy and trace metals such as Cadmium (Cd), Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Copper (Cu) and Iron (Fe) in water were investigated between January – December, 2016 using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The results showed that station 2 had the highest concentration of the metals …
