Multi-Layer Aluminum–Polymer Hybrid Structures for Improved Automotive Impact PerformanceBy Nantha Kumar P, K. Arun, Sachin S. Harak, M.Suresh Kumar, DVSSSV Prasad, K. Amudha, Jayarenjini N, V. Kavimani, A. Vijayalakshmi
Abstract: Layered metal–polymer hybrid laminates have emerged as promising candidates for lightweight automotive structures requiring high impact resistance and structural reliability. In this study, aluminum/glass–epoxy hybrid laminates were fabricated using a symmetric stacking sequence through hot compression molding to evaluate their mechanical and energy absorption performance. Density analysis revealed an average measured density of 2.34 g/cm³, closely matching the theoretical value of 2.36 g/cm³, with a deviation of approximately 1.02%, indicating …

Bio-Derived TPS–Lignin Hybrid Composites Reinforced with Modified Coir and Plantain Fibers for Eco-Efficient Structural ApplicationsBy Nantha Kumar P, Nagasrisaihari Sunkara, Sachin S. Harak, A. Vijayalakshmi, DVSSSV Prasad, Karanam Suresh Babu, Kirubakaran D, S.Dhivya, Rajendiran M
Abstract: This study develops bio-derived polymer composites using a thermoplastic starch–lignin (TPS–lignin) matrix reinforced with alkali-treated coir and plantain fibers for sustainable load-bearing applications. The TPS–lignin matrix was formulated using cassava starch, glycerol, and 10 wt% lignin, while coir and plantain fibers were surface-modified using 5 wt% NaOH to enhance interfacial compatibility. Composite laminates were fabricated with varying fiber loadings (10–40 wt%) through melt-mixing and hot-press compression. Tensile, thermal, morphological, and …
