Bio Solvent EOR: Performance Assessment of Plant Extracts as Asphaltene Inhibitor
Abstract: Changes in pressure and temperature during oil production and transportation most notably during CO2 injection for enhanced recovery could lead to changes in the oil composition and deposition of asphaltene. Deposition of asphaltene near the wellbore region, production tubing and production facilities could cause severe flow assurance problem. Physical removal of asphaltene is costly and in most cases it is not preferred. A more favorable option is to prevent the …

Predicting the Physical Property of Asphaltene Molecule using Fuzzy System
Abstract: Asphaltenes — the heaviest and most aromatic compounds of crude oil— have a strong tendency to aggregate in solution to form complex colloidal structures. They generally impede producing, transporting and refining of crude oil resources. An indepth knowledge of the physical behavior of asphaltenes is needed to mitigate these effects. Predicting the physical behavior of asphaltene such as density is complex and nonlinear as it is a complex molecular mixture …

Establishment of Wax Deposition Index from Saturates, Aromatics, Resins, Asphaltenes Analysis
Abstract: Saturates, aromatics, resins, asphaltenes (SARA) analysis is one method of characterizing crude oils. It is versatile because it can apply to many components of the crude oil. SARA analysis furnishes one with the composition of any crude and ultimately gives an idea of the potential of the crude oil to precipitate and deposit wax. This analysis method usually breaks crude oil down into four components (saturates, aromatics, resins and asphaltenes) …

Study on Effect of Insulation Design on Thermal-Hydraulic Analysis: An Important Aspect in Subsea Pipeline Designing
Abstract: The most imperative and challenging operational hazards for oil and gas pipelines are the risks associated with the transportation of fluids. When water, oil and gas flow simultaneously inside the pipeline, there are quite high chances that, water and hydrocarbon fluids can form and deposit hydrate such as wax and asphaltene on the inner surfaces of the pipeline and gradually blocking it. In this paper we explore and compare the …

Selection and Preparation of Solvent for Wax Dissolution in Heavy Crude Oil Wells
Abstract: Remedial measures for wax deposition problems in production wells are very hectic due to production down time and expenditure required for removal of heavy and waxy crude oil. Chemical treatment techniques with solvent formulation derived from many laboratory experiments were carried out with the waxy crude oil sample to recover the solidified wax inside the pipelines and wellbores. A list of chemical solvents including three dispersants was mixed in different …

A Study on the Low Salinity Waterflooding (LSW) in a Part of a Depleted Oilfield of Upper Assam Basin
Abstract: Maximizing the hydrocarbon recovery from depleted oilfields is the biggest challenge now a days which becomes an opportunity for advanced EOR technologies. One of such EOR technology that can promote the oil recovery efficiency from such fields is the low salinity waterfloofing (LSW) which gains the attention of many researchers due to its easiness to use implications, less cost and environment-friendly nature. Different studies have shown that fines migration, pH …

Studies on Naturally Extracted Surfactant to Enhance Flow Properties of Crude Oil
Abstract: Indian heavy crude oil sample from Gujarat was studied for improvement of properties such as pour point, wax crystal structure, particle size analysis and viscosity by addition of a novel surfactant extracted from a tropical Indian plant Sapindus mukorossi. Characterization was done to find the effect of surfactant addition on individual components of the crude oil such as saturates, asphaltenes, resins and aromatics. The objective was to increase the flowability …

Thermal Adsorption Processing of Hydrocarbon Residues
Abstract: The raw materials of secondary catalytic processes must be pre-refined. Among these refining processes are the deasphalting and demetallization including their thermo-adsorption (or thermo-contact adsorption) variety. In oil processing, four main processes of thermo-adsorption refining of hydrocarbon residues are used—Asphalt Residual Treating- residues deasphaltizing (ART), Discriminatory Destructive Distillation (3D), developed in the US; Adsorption-Contact Treatment (ACT) and Express Thermo-Contact Cracking (ETCC), developed in Russia. ART and ACT are processes with …

Well Integrity and Reservoir Behavior under Sudden Field Shutdowns During Armed Conflicts: A Comprehensive Technical Review
Abstract: In the oil and gas industry, the sudden and unplanned cessation of operations resulting from armed conflicts or pandemics typically poses complex and multifaceted technical challenges to both well integrity and reservoir behavior. Minimal or no opportunity for proper pre-shutdown preservation procedures in unplanned shutdowns, unlike planned shutdowns that follow established operational protocols. The mechanisms and consequences of well integrity degradation and reservoir performance alteration under such conditions are synthesized …
