A computational fluid dynamics (CFD)-code ANSYS FLUENT 15.0 has been implemented using finite volume method in eulerian framework for the simulation of axisymmetric transient flow in bubble column. The population balance has been included to solve for the bubble flow and size distribution for the population of six different bubble sizes in the CFD code. A fixed pivot method of Ramakrishna [ANSYS FLUENT 15.0] has been used to discretize the population balance equation. The turbulence in the liquid phase has been modeled by a k-ɛ model. Simulation in the heterogeneous regime, at superficial gas velocities of 0.01 m/s was developed in order to better evaluate the breakup and coalescence process. Evaluation of the statistical moments of size distribution represents aggregate quantity such as the total number of bubbles or the total bubble surface area per unit volume. Keywords: CFD, axisymmetric, heterogeneous, breakup, coalescenceCite this ArticleP.
