Optimization of Culture Conditions for the Mass Cultivation of Amphora coffeaeformis: A Promising Marine Diatom for Biodiesel Production
Abstract: Microalgae are promising primary producers involved in sustainable energy. As the oceanic environments are dwindling environments the primary productivity is influenced by light and temperature thereby altering the biochemical composition of the algae Amphora coffeaeformis, being a marine organism can be grown in varied environments, however for higher yield of biomass and lipid production simple modifications in the culture conditions is required. This study helps to exploit this species for …

Determination of Antioxidant Activity of Phenolic Extract of Grapes
Abstract: The grapes were extracted under various conditions using different solvents. The antioxidant activity of solvent extracts was investigated by DPPH radical scavenging method. Ethanol extract exhibited the highest antioxidant activity compared to the other solvents (BuOH, EtOAc, Me2 Cl2 and pet.ether). There was a correlation between antioxidant activity and total phenol content. HPLC analysis of the extracts showed that gallic and cinnamic acid was the major phenolic compounds in grapes. …

Phenological Studies on Vegetative and Reproductive Parts of Dendrophthoe Falcata (L.F) Ettingsh
Abstract: Dendrophthoe falcata (L.f) Ettingsh is an important hemi-stem parasitic angiosperm belonging to the family Loranthaceae. Phenological study is one of the most important traits in relation to plant growth, development and pollination system and considered as an important tool for the ecology and evolution. The complete development of leaf took 50 days from the initiation till the expansion, while the flower initiation to maturation period was 44 days and the …

Postharvest Quality and Longevity of Gerbera Varieties as Affected by Different Floral Preservatives
Abstract: Gerbera, Gerbera jamesonii of Asteraceae family is grown for garden decoration, cut flowers and stands at fourth position in international flower market. Cut gerbera flowers are sensitive to microbial contamination, insufficient water uptake and short vase life. Use of sucrose with organic acids as preservative solution may help to increase the postharvest life of cut flowers. So, an experiment was conducted in the Horticulture Laboratory of Lamjung Campus during January …
