Managing Hydro Resources of Pakistan: A Proactive Approach for Disaster Response
Abstract: Our county has been bestowed with sufficient water resources, yet it is facing water shortages due to mismanagement and changing weather phenomena. Pakistan’s vulnerability to natural hazards had increased many folds because of this issue, in the shape of floods and droughts. The efforts should be augmented by prudent policies of creating new dams and local storage facilities. To the contrary, Pakistan has witnessed a strange complacency and lack of …

Examining the Influence of DEM Resolution in Flood Hazard Assessment using the Flood Modeller Pro 2D Solver
Abstract: Floods are the most frequent natural hazards that threat the human life, environment and infrastructure. The flood prediction models that have wide use in the recent years represent important tools for flood management decisions aiming to mitigate the impacts of the flood events. The accuracy of the constructed prediction models is based on the quality of the primary data, such as the terrain’s resolution. This study examines the effect of …

Sensitivity of Shape Factor Impacts in Water Works Infrastructure Failure
Abstract: Simple geometry used in water software and hydride sign works was failed here. Comprehensive real data with complex irregular geometries were incorporated provided for wider application and feasible solutions. A realistic and more practical approach was tested, found reliable and compatible with water engineering principles considered for calculation of volumetric water rates by three types of Ogee shapes. Results indicated proximity between numerical and experimental data accurately predicted based on …

Effect of Earthquake on Embankment based on Reliability Index Using Spreadsheet Optimization Method
Abstract: To obtain varying parametric sensitivities from case to case, a reliability analysis is most efficient method for designing any structure. Reliability based design illustrates the standard deviations and the correlation structure of the input parameters. The aim of this paper is to delineate the ultimate limit states or reliability based assessment and to describe the reliability index or Hasofer-Lind (H-L) index using object-oriented constrained optimization in the ubiquitous spread sheet …

Braided River: Aspects and Issues
Abstract: River braiding is characterized by division of channel around the islands. The island grows as the deposition of the coarser fraction, which cannot be transported, starts. Understanding the dynamic and deposition characteristics of braided river requires an interdisciplinary approach, although many advances have been made in past decade in understanding the different characteristics of braided rivers such as mechanics of flow and sedimentary deposition architecture of braided rivers, many salient …
