Appraisal of Household Potable Water Accessibility in Sub–Urban Areas of Oyo State: Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing Approach
Abstract: This study centred on assessing potable water accessibility in sub-urban areas using Fiditi as a case study. This study adopted a service area network and overlay operation in ArcGIS to achieve the aim of this study. Locational coordinates of all the facilities were obtained through Garmin 76 handheld GPS. Also, ground truthing was adopted to distinguish residential buildings from non - residential buildings. Coordinates (X.Y, Z) of the study were …

Thornthwaite’s Potential Evapotranspiration Rate Assessment and Implication on Rainfall Induced Floods in a Coastal Expanse of Nigeria
Abstract: This study examined the potential evapotranspiration (PET) rate effects on rainfall-induced floods within Port Harcourt, a coastal city in Nigeria. Mean monthly rainfall and air temperature data for 39 years (1979–2018) was sourced from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and used to evaluate the potential evapotranspiration (PET) of the area using the Thornthwaite’s method. Results revealed that the mean rainfall and PET values for Port Harcourt during the periods under review …

Land Use and Land Cover Changes in Niamey Municipality from 1981 to 2021 in Flood Context
Abstract: The increase in population leads to a need for housing and agricultural land. As a result, some areas are being modified to meet these needs. In addition, rapid growth combined with the negative impacts of climate change observed in recent decades, plays an important role in land use changes. This study examines land use changes in Niamey, Niger, from 1981 to 2021. To detect land use changes, a geographic information …

Assessment of Scouring of Bank of River
Abstract: The thrust of water due to standing water and velocity of flow are taken. In flood cases, more depth of water and more velocity are to be taken and it is seen whether the embankment is safe or not. The maximum velocity of flow = 1.2 d taken where d is the depth of flow of water. The bearing strength of the soil of the embankment should be taken against …

Effect of Data Length on Estimation of Seasonal and Annual Dependable Flow Using Flow Duration Curve
Abstract: For planning, design, and management of water-related projects such as hydro power generation, irrigation systems, reservoir sedimentation, etc., estimation of seasonal and annual dependable flow at different percentage levels is considered one of the important aspects in hydrological studies. For this purpose, the construction of the flow duration curve (FDC) using the plotting position formula (PPF) is considered one of the effective tools for the estimation of dependable flow at …
