Design and Detailing of a Waste Water Treatment Plant for a Small Community
Abstract: The water supplied to a community receives a range of chemical substances and microbial flora during its use such that the waste water acquires a polluting potential and becomes a health and environmental hazard. Communicable diseases of the intestinal tract such as; cholera, typhoid, dysenteries and water borne diseases like infectious hepatitis etc. can be spread from uncontrolled disposal of waste water and therefore, prevention of communicable diseases and protecting …

Adsorption Study using Water Hyacinth as an Adsorbent
Abstract: Heavy metals are widely used in numerous industries such as paints and pigments, glass production, mining operation, electroplating, battery manufacturing and textile industries. The significant losses of heavy metals occur during the manufacturing processes and these lost heavy metals are discharged in the effluent. As they move from one ecological trophic level to another, metallic species start damaging the ecosystem. They also become difficult to track as they move up …

DEM Development using Geographic Information System for Topographic Assessment
Abstract: Topography of the earth surface plays a vital role in the distribution of water within the natural land surfaces. This includes various hydrological processes like surface runoff, infiltration and evaporation. The quantitative assessment of these processes mainly depends upon the topography of the surfaces. Many topographic features can be computed directly from Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Assessment of topography manually is generally tedious, time consuming and often subject to error. …

Drinking Water Problems and Possible Alternatives in Coastal Region of Bangladesh: A Case Study
Abstract: Safe drinking water for the coastal areas of Bangladesh has become a big challenge. Arsenic adulteration and salinity intrusion in surface water body has accelerated the scarcity of water in the coastal region. As situation ameliorating and also investment for water-borne diseases is decreasing, it becomes the major threat for a third-world country like Bangladesh. There are lots of alternatives for water supply but there are also a huge number …

Study of the Effect of Saline Solution on the Extraction of the Tamarind Seed Extracts Active Coagulant for Textile Wastewater Treatment
Abstract: The use of synthetic coagulants is not regarded as suitable due to health and economic considerations. A new coagulant obtained through polymerization of tamarind seed extract has been characterized in the removal of dangerous dye pollutants. The present study was aimed to investigate the effects of tamarind seed extract as coagulant in treatment of textile wastewater. The coagulant prepared was employed for the removal of sludge at the different doses. …
