An Overview: Design of Nanocomposite Coatings
Abstract: The call for high productivity, quality in machined surfaces, and reduced machining costs have put a demand on the improved cutting tools. The recent advancements in development of nanocomposite coatings which consist of crystalline and amorphous phase have made dry machining at high speeds with quality in machined parts a reality. The driving force behind the super hard structure of such coatings is phase segregation mechanism. In this work, a …

Determining the Effect of Cutting Parameters on Surface Roughness in Turning Process Using the Taguchi Method
Abstract: This study focuses on optimizing turning parameters based on the Taguchi method to minimize surface roughness (Ra). Experiments have been conducted using the L9 orthogonal array in a CNC turning machine. Turning tests are carried out on aluminium alloy AISI 1061 with carbide cutting tools. Each experiment is repeated two times and each test uses a new cutting insert to ensure accurate readings of the surface roughness. The statistical methods …

Metal Surface Coating Through Welding Processes
Abstract: The adversity of service conditions limits the service life of components. The replacement cost of the components is extremely high. Surfacing technique offers benefits in reducing materials costs and, in salvage applications, enables an expensive or difficult-to-replace part to be reclaimed and restored to operation with minimum of downtime. Industries involved in surfacing operations use various fusion welding especially arc welding processes. These operations demand high deposition rates but at …

Hard and Wear-Resistant Nanocomposite Thin Film Coatings
Abstract: Recent advancements in the hard and wear-resistant protective coatings have made high speed machining increasingly viable in the industries. The nanocomposite coatings have immense applications today in dry and high speed machining due their high wear resistance and high oxidation resistance properties. The high oxidation and wear resistance properties are obtained by addition of fourth element such as silicon to tertiary transition metal nitride compounds. In this work, a review …

Development of Primer as a Value Added Product from Waste PET
Abstract: Polyethylene terephthalate was depolymerized by two different chemical recycling techniques i.e. glycolysis and aminolysis. Glycolysis is carried out with Zinc hydroxide and with conventional catalyst i.e. Zinc acetate for the comparable yield of the monomer. Glycolysis is carried out with ethylene glycol whereas aminolysis is done with ethanolamine. Products obtained from both the techniques namely Bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET) and Bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalamide (BHETA) have different chemical structure but have hydroxyl functionality …
