Active Power Control during Contingency using UPFC
Abstract: The ability of FACTs devices to control phase angle, bus voltages and line impedance in transmission line is what make it capable of controlling power flow. In this paper, we have studied one of most effective FACTS device known as UPFC. Analysis under the contingency is done using 10 bus systemand contingency condition is being introduced in three-phase, delta-delta connected transformer i.e. one base is damaged or accidently opened. Now, …

Smart Gallery Lighting System
Abstract: This paper proposes the energy efficiency of a smart gallery lighting system based on a low-cost microcontroller. The main objective is to design energy efficient based system for controlling the tube lights based gallery lamps via appropriate lighting based on movement. We aim to make a smart gallery lighting system that glows only when it is necessary and goes to the OFF position when it is not, in a very …

Circuit Breakers’ Recovery Voltage Transients: Impact of Composite Loads and Power Network’s Configuration
Abstract: The paper addresses the identification of the circuit breaker transient recovery voltage and its dependence on the loading conditions and the data of the power network, such as its rated power frequency and short-circuit level. A Laplace-domain approach is adopted and a closed-form expression for the recovery voltage is derived. A numerical inversion technique using Mathematica is implemented in order to get its time waveform. The proposed technique is applied …

Harmonic Estimation and its Compensation using D-STATCOM for a Steel Manufacturing Plant
Abstract: Electrical power system having distorted voltage and current waveform generates harmonics. The compensation of the harmonics is greatly required for better performance of the power system. Harmonic is of major concern for the power system containing electric arc furnace (EAF). Since the nature of the arc is highly non-linear and time varying and therefore harmonic analysis becomes important to know the behavior of the power system. This paper presents the …

Evolutionary Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO) based technique considering Voltage Stability Margin for Reactive Power Reserve Optimization
Abstract: Reactive power reserve and voltage stability are one of the important parameters required for proper operation of the electrical power system. Voltage stability covers a broad span of phenomena in power systems and its applications. Voltage stability is defined as ability of power system to assist fixed bearable potential at every single bus of the system under standard operating conditions and when put through to a disturbance. At any instant …
