SOR Process: A Tool for Reduction of SO2 Emission
Abstract: Sulphur dioxide (SO2) emissions are prominently due to burning of fossil fuels at power plants and other industrial facilities, as well as fuel combustion in mobile sources such as locomotives, ships, and other equipment. Rapid SO2 emission has in recent times become a major source of concern because it can cause breathing problems, respiratory illness, changes in the lung's defenses, cardiovascular diseases and damage to vegetation and building due to …

Impact of Aila on the Dissolved Oxygen Level in the Indian Sundarbans Region
Abstract: The Indian Sundarban delta complex is one of the hot spots of biodiversity in the Indian subcontinent sustaining some 34 species of true mangrove flora. The aquatic phase is saturated with dissolved oxygen (DO) and the average values in the present study area, Ajmalmari (considered on the basis of 3 decades; 1984–2014) are 5.81 ppm, 6.43 ppm and 6.13 ppm in premonsoon, monsoon and postmonsoon seasons respectively. These values include …

Molluscan Community: A Potential Sink of Carbon
Abstract: Stored carbon in dominant molluscan species collected from three regions of the Indian subcontinent (Hooghly estuary in West Bengal, Mandovi estuary in Goa and Kalapet coast in Puducherry) was analyzed both in shell and flesh. The accumulation was more in the flesh (~35%) compared to the shell (~12%) irrespective of stations, seasons and species. Pronounced spatial variation of stored carbon was observed, which confirms the role of environmental variables on …

Photovoltaic: Environmental, Health and Safety Issues
Abstract: Photovoltaic (PV) technologies have many environmental advantages over conventional technologies for generating electricity. The function of PV systems is silent one, without any toxic gas emissions, or greenhouse gases. PV electricity generation—apart from of which technology is used—is a zero-emissions performing practice. PV technology is very much related with the electronic industry where we can find a number of social impacts throughout the supply chain from raw material mining to …
