Comparative Realization of 2DoF PID Controllers for Flow Process with Measurement Delay
Abstract: Two Degree-of-Freedom (2DoF) PID control techniques presented in this paper were developed based on optimal control theory and with the Anti-Integral Windup (AIW) scheme. The controllers were implemented for a laboratory flow process setup. First Order Process with Dead Time (FOPDT) models had been identified by step testing. The process responses showed a significant non-minimum phase dynamics exhibited for the specific step inputs applied. The measurement delay was considered as …

Temperature Control of Heat Exchanger using Sliding Mode Control Law
Abstract: Shell and tube heat exchanger system is widely used in chemical plants as it sustains wide range of temperature and pressure. The main purpose of heat exchanger is to transfer heat from a hot fluid to a cooler fluid, so temperature control of outlet fluid is having prime importance. To control the temperature of outlet fluid of shell and tube heat exchanger, a conventional PID controller can be used. But …

Performance Assessment of IRT Method for Distillation Model Control
Abstract: A Wood and Berry distillation column was considered for experimentation and the Improved Relay Tuning (IRT) method was applied for design of optimum PID settings. The closed loop response was obtained using optimum values of PID parameters and compared with that of conventional relay method and other non relay method. The integral square error (ISE) criterion for the performance assessment was used and it was found that the integral error …

Real-Time Temperature Control System and Performance Exemplification with Conventional PID
Abstract: In process control industries, automatic controllers are introduced. PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controllers are the work horses of many industrial controller applications. Significant research work has been carried out to improve the performance of closed loop response with a PID controller so that it can be used for real time temperature control system. Also performance of a PID controller is investigated for different performance metrics such as Integral Square Error (ISE), Integral …

Real Time Implementation of Cascade Process using NI ELVIS in LabVIEW
Abstract: The main objective of this work is to enforce PID controller in a real time process, and to find out the best robust control settings for cascade process. In this work, process variable level is controlled in a cascade mode. Level and flow are considered as primary and secondary variable, respectively. Process models of flow and level are identified as First order plus dead time models. Validated model is used …

Comparison of Flow Process Values for Different PID Controller Techniques
Abstract: The main objective of this paper is to find the best and suitable controller that can be applied for a flow process in a real system. The flow process is done in a cylindrical tank of cascade system. The search of PID controller is done by the steps of acquiring transfer function from the real time open loop response and invoking it to the various tuning techniques of PID controller …
