Effect of Ta2O5 as a Support in Phosphotungstic Acid Catalysts for Vapor Phase Dehydration of Glycerol to Acrolein
Abstract: The Ta2O5 supported phosphotungstic acid (HPA) catalysts were investigated for vapor phase dehydration of glycerol to acrolein and materials were synthesized by impregnation method. The above HPA catalysts were characterized by Raman spectroscopy to identify the Keggin ion and temperature programmed desorption of ammonia to explore the acidity of the catalysts. The findings of Raman spectra shows that the Keggin ion of heteropolyacid intact with support. NH3-TPD results confirm that …

Synthesis of Copper Oxide Nanoparticles using Ultrasound for the Treatment of Textile Organic Dyes (Reactive Black 5 and Basic Blue 3)
Abstract: This paper describes the ultrasound assisted synthesis of copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles using copper nitrate trihydrate and ammonium carbonate as reactants. The resultant product, copper carbonate was calcined at 400°C which was chosen based on the thermogravimetric analysis of copper carbonate precipitate. The final product CuO nanoparticles characterized by X-Ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), particle size analyzer (PSA) and Brunner-Emmet-Teller surface area analyzer (BET) …

Bio-ethanol Production and Heavy Metal Lead (Pb) Removal Using Macro Algae Wolffia
Abstract: This study was aimed to evaluate the potential of using macro algae Wolffia for bio-ethanol production and for heavy metal Lead (Pb) biosorption. Macro algae Wolffia was collected locally from a pond. Pretreatment was given by using 1 and 10% sulphuric acid (H2SO4) to different batches of Wolffia. Fehling’s test was performed to check the presence of sugar. For the fermentation step Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain was used. Yield obtained using …

Preparation of Phenolic Resin from Oil of Semecarpus Anacardium
Abstract: Semecarpus anacardium also known as biba, is native of India. The oil of Semecarpus anacardium is found to contain phenolic compounds. These phenolic compounds are extracted and polymerized with formaldehyde to make a resin. This resin serves as a substitute to the conventional phenol formaldehyde resin (resol). Keywords: Semecarpus anacardium, resol, biba, phenolic compound

Pt (II) Schiff Base Complex Catalyzed Oxidation of Internal and Terminal Alkenes
Abstract: Pt (II) complexes of Schiff base ligands were found highly efficient towards the catalytic oxidation of internal alkenes and terminal alkenes in dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent under normal pressure of molecular oxygen. In some catalytic reactions, H2O2 was also used as co-oxidant. No diminished catalytic activity was observed even after six to eight repeated catalytic runs. Effect of temperature and extra ligand etc. on the rate of oxidation, nature and percentage …
