Isomerization of Lighter Alkanes by Heteropoly Acids: A Review
Abstract: Isomerization is the reaction used to enhance the octane number of gasoline and thereby helps in increasing the life of the automobile engines. Although a number of methods are known, researchers are still struggling for a low cost catalytic material in order to replace the previous expensive ones. Heteropoly acid has come out as one of the promising alternatives to meet the requirements and is considered to be a bi-functional …

Perturbant Effect of Iron in Free and Complexed Form on the Briggs-Rauscher Oscillating Reaction
Abstract: The present work is aimed to investigate the perturbations of the oscillatory regime of Briggs-Rauscher (BR) reaction by Fe(bipy)32+ and Fe(C2O4)33‑ complexes in a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). The path of the perturbation (immediate quenching of oscillation -inhibition time- resumption of oscillations) provoked by the ferrous complex (Fe(bipy)32+) was found different to that of the ferric complex (Fe(C2O4)33‑). The initial concentration of Fe(bipy)32+ complex showed a linear dependence on …

Role of Solid Acid Catalyst in Isopropylation Reaction
Abstract: Cumene synthesis was carried out by the reaction of benzene with isopropyl alcohol in the vapour phase over rare earth metal modified 13X zeolite. Zeolite modification was done by exchanging sodium ions of the zeolite with cerium ions to vary the acidity of the catalyst in the range of 0.25‑1.36 meq/g. The synthesis was carried out over a wide range of operating conditions. The synthesis conditions were optimized by studying …

Effect of MoO3 as a Promoter in Cu-Mgo-Al2O3 (Hydrotalcite like Precursor) Catalyst for the Vapour Phase Hydrogenation of Cinnamaldehyde
Abstract: An attempt has been made to study the role of MoO3 as promoterin Cu-MgO-Al2O3 (hydrotalcite like precursor) for the hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde in vapour phase at atmospheric pressure. It is interesting to note that the MoO3 addition plays an important role in maintaining enhanced activity and stability of the catalyst by avoiding agglomeration of Cu species during the time on stream study. The discrepancy in the catalysts was clearly monitored …

Vapour Phase Hydrogenation of Levulinic Acid Over Carbon Coated HZSM-5 Supported Ni Catalysts
Abstract: Carbon coated HZSM-5 supported Ni catalyst shown to be a promising catalyst in the hydrogenation of levulinic acid to yield γ- valerolactone. Physicochemical characterizations were undertaken using N2 physisorption, H2-chemisorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), CHNS and temperature programmed reduction (TPR) techniques. The CHNS studies reveal about 3 wt% carbon was coated by the passage of cyclohexene at 600 °C for 3 h. The carbon coated HZSM-5 supported Ni catalyst shown lower …
