Emission Characteristics Investigation of Single Cylinder VCR Diesel Engine using Calophyllum inophyllum Biodiesel Blends as Fuel
Abstract: This work presents experimental investigation on a single cylinder vertical diesel engine with Calophyllum inophyllum (Undi) biodiesel blends. Experiments were conducted using pure diesel, 25, 50 and 75% blends by varying the compression ratio, and the exhaust emission characteristics obtained using a computerized exhaust gas analyzer are presented here. From the results obtained, it was concluded that the biodiesel blends had equivalent emission characteristics with no modifications in the VCR …

Power Generation from Kitchen and Industrial Waste Water using Microbial Fuel Cells (MFCs) with Graphite Cathode and Anode
Abstract: Degradation of fossil fuels and increased accumulation of waste water has become the major issue in the world over decades. Microbial fuel cells are one such advancement that makes use of renewable waste sources like dhobi ghats, pond water, domestic kitchen waste water and industrial waste water; and directly convert it into electricity. Microbial fuel cells are electrochemical cells that directly convert chemical energy into electrical energy using microorganisms as …

Impact of Storage Methods and Duration on Sugar and Starch Content and Ethanol Yield of Sweet Potatoes [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam]
Abstract: Previous studies have shown that ‘industrial’ sweet potatoes can be an excellent feedstock for ethanol production as compared to corn, sorghum and other potential feedstocks. However, starch content can be affected by cultivars as well as storage conditions. Ideally, it is practical that sweet potato storage roots be processed for ethanol production as close to harvest as possible, but this may not always be the case and some amount of …

Drying and Particle Size Characteristics of Danta (Nesogordonia papavereria) and Hard Cross (Vitex doniana) Wood Sawdusts at Different Temperatures
Abstract: The drying and particle size characterization of Danta (Nesogordonia papavereria) and Hard Cross (Vitex doniana) hardwood sawdusts were investigated at temperatures 80 ºC, 90 ºC and 105 . The experimental drying data were modeled using eighteen existing drying models. The results showed that the modified Henderson and Pabis model offered the best fit to the drying curves of Danta and Hard Cross sawdusts. The experimental data obtained from the particle …

Development of 12V-30W Solar Cell by Local Materials of Rural Bangladesh
Abstract: Sustainable social and economic development depends on adequate power generation capacity of a country. In order to increase the power generation by fuel diversification, the development of renewable energy is one of the important strategies. Bangladesh is one of the densely populated countries which do not have sufficient supply of energy. The present crisis in power supply hints at the troublesome time to come ahead. To cope with the exponential …

Effect of Climate Change on Water Resources
Abstract: Observational records and climate projections provided enough evidence for the effect of climate change on global water resources and its consequences for human societies and ecosystems. It is a big environmental challenge to environmentalist for planning a long term water resources system and its management. Extensive studies are required to establish a relation among hydrology, water resources, planning management, operation management, environmental protection and ecological balance due to climate change. …

Study on Solar Wind Battery on Off-grid and Its Status Over a Day in Perspective of Bangladesh
Abstract: Hybrid energy plays a vital role for the generation of power. Renewable energy in general has major problem because of having uncontrolled and intermittent in nature. Hybrid energy systems solve the problem by combining two or more energy system. In this paper, an attempt has taken to study battery charging by hybrid system (combined of solar and wind energy) and its status over a day. The whole study takes place …
