Abstract

Despite many buildings have firefighting systems installed in them; many people are still losing their lives and property due to fire accidents. The cost of installation of these systems is usually high and most of them are operated manually. They are often located inside the buildings which may not be accessible during fire accidents. In this paper, an automatic cost effective prototype of a firefighting system for the detection and control of fire has been reviewed and analysed. Smoke and temperature sensors have been integrated to form a single unit to improve the accuracy and efficiency of fire detection. LM 35 IC has been used as temperature sensor while light dependent resistor (LDR) has been used as smoke sensor. The measured temperature of the system was compared with the reference temperature. The result showed a non-significant mean deviation of 1.55°C between the measured values and reference values which served as the control.
