Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technologies has significantly transformed the functioning of modern libraries. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has emerged as an important technological solution for automating library operations, improving resource management, strengthening security, and enhancing user services. RFID enables libraries to identify, track, circulate, and manage library resources electronically with greater speed and accuracy. This paper examines the role of RFID technology in the digital transformation of modern libraries, particularly in circulation management, self-service facilities, stock verification, resource tracking, theft detection, and collection management. The paper adopts a descriptive and review-based approach to examine the applications, benefits, challenges, and future potential of RFID in libraries. Recent literature indicates that RFID contributes to operational efficiency and collection management, while implementation cost, infrastructure, staff training, system integration, and privacy remain important challenges. The study further explores the integration of RFID with Library Management Systems (LMS), Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and data analytics for developing smart and user-centric libraries. The paper concludes that RFID can serve as an important technological foundation for transforming traditional library operations into efficient, automated, secure, and digitally enabled services.
