In I.C. Engine, piston is the most complex and important part because it is the mechanism that contains the engine’s energy. Therefore, for smooth running of vehicle, piston should be in proper working condition. Pistons fail mainly due to mechanical stresses and thermal stresses. Combustion chamber is considered to be the space between the piston crown and cylinder head. The shape of crown is generally varied to obtain different types of combustion chamber shapes. In this present work two pistons with same dimensions but different crown shapes are designed in SolidWorks software. The piston design is then imported to Ansys and Thermo-Structural Analysis is done after taking three different piston materials viz. Al6061, Ti6Al4V and Inconel Ni-Cr-625. Of the three different piston materials, Al6065 alloy is found to be the best. Keywords: Piston, Piston Crown, Thermo-Structural Analysis, SolidWorks, AnsysCite this Article Geeta Chandra Sekhar Boda, Dr. Rajesh Ghosh, Naresh Gurajarapu, et al.
