Abstract: The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland which secretes its hormone directly into the bloodstream. It is a largest gland in the body. It plays an important role in calcium metabolism. The common causes of hypothyroidism in adults are Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Lymphocytic thyroiditis, Thyroid destruction, Pituitary gland, Medications and Severe iodine deficiency.
