Acid and Alkali Resistance of Polylactic Acid Incorporated Polyfurfuryl Alcohol BioplasticsBy Mohd. Sharib, Rakesh Kumar
Abstract: PLA (0.5 to 3%) was successfully dissolved in furfuryl alcohol (FA). Acid number of neat polylactic acid (PLA) and PLA incorporated in FA were determined. Neat PLA and PLA incorporated polyfurfuryl alcohol based bioplastics were successfully fabricated with p-toulene sulfonic acid as an acid catalyst by casting method in silicon mould. The fabricated bioplastics are black in colour. The as-fabricated bioplastics were tested for resistance against acid and alkali. Additionally, …

Investigation of Heat Transfer for Extruded Polymers Cooled in WaterBy Rakesh Kumar, Rajnish Kumar, Osei Ofosu
Abstract: The commodity articles from polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) are widely used in today’s world. To reduce the carbon footprint, biopolymers such as polylactic acid (PLA) as commodity plastics are also explored. Often, these polymers have to be extruded before they are fabricated for end users. The work described in this paper has been divided in two parts. In the first part PE, PP and PLA are subjected to extrusion …

Plasticizers for Processing Biopolymers: A Mini ReviewBy Rakesh Kumar
Abstract: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This study was performed in order to understand the types of plasticizers used for the fabrication of bioplastics. Journal articles from peer-reviewed journals were studied in order to understand the level of work that has so far been completed. It was found that great deal of hydrophobic and hydrophilic plasticizers are used currently for the preparation of bioplastics from polylactic acid, …
