Total Electron Content Variations Over Abuja During the Annular Solar Eclipse of September 1, 2016By Okoh Daniel, Aderonke Obafaye, Moses Onudibia, Babatunde Rabiu
Abstract: This study is focused on studying the variations of TEC over two GNSS stations in Abuja, Nigeria, during the annular solar eclipse of September 1, 2016. To visualize the effect of the eclipse on TEC, GNSS TEC data for 7 days were used; the 3 days before the eclipse day, the eclipse day, and the 3 days after the eclipse day. Data used in this work were obtained from two …

The Response of Meteorological Parameters to the September 1 2016 Solar Eclipse as Observed in Anyigba, NigeriaBy Okoh Daniel, Daniel OKOH, David OKEYA, Najib YUSUF, George ADUKWU
Abstract: The effect of the annular solar eclipse of September 1 2016 on meteorological parameters at Anyigba, Nigeria is examined. Parameters examined include the surface air temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind speed, soil temperature, solar radiation, and relative humidity. Meteorological data were obtained from a TRODAN station equipped with Campbell scientific equipment at the Anyigba location. Background diurnal profiles of the parameters were computed by averaging diurnal profiles for the 3 days …

A Study of Total Electron Content Variations Over Abuja (Nigeria) using the GNSSBy Okoh Daniel, Samuel Oliha
Abstract: Effects of space weather are usually related to disturbances in the ionosphere such as change in total electron content (TEC), which is an important descriptive quantity for the ionosphere of the earth. This has an important effect on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) as it causes delay in range measurements. The knowledge of this TEC change is therefore very significant to various GNSS users. This work presents the variation …

A Machine Learning Approach for Investigating Spatial Structures between Spectral line Sources: Formaldehyde Absorptions versus Methanol MasersBy Okoh Daniel, Jarken Esimbek, Jianjun Zhou, Tang Xindi, Augustine Chukwude, Johnson Urama, Pius Okeke
Abstract: In this paper the authors present fascinating ideas on using machine learning algorithms to study connections in spatial distributions between observed spectral line sources. The method has been illustrated using observations of 4.8 GHz formaldehyde absorptions and 6.7 GHz methanol masers in the Galaxy. Both spectral line features have been well-observed in close associations with galactic star-formation regions, and we initiate this study to understand spatial connections between them. We …

Modeling the Solar Radiation Parameter over Abuja using Neural NetworksBy Iloanusi Nkiru Lilian, Okoh Daniel, Obi Joseph
Abstract: Many computer simulation models which predict growth, development and yield of agronomic and horticultural crops require daily weather data as input. One of these inputs is daily total solar radiation, which in many cases is not available owing to the high cost and complexity of the instrumentation needed to collect the data. In this work, a neural network model of the solar radiation over Abuja, Nigeria is developed. The model …
