Crop Acreage Estimation in Jharkhand using Multi-temporal Satellite DataBy N. K. Sharma, Nishi Jaya Kullu, Chandni Purty
Abstract: Information on crop acreage statistics and distribution of crops in different districts is required for planning and implementation of various government schemes. Further, information is also required on kharif fallow areas to enhance the cropping intensity. Therefore, in this context acreage assessment in different agriculture seasons i.e., kharif, rabi and zaid has been carried out in Jharkhand State using Landsat-8 OLI remote sensing data. Estimation was carried out for the …

Landscape Characterization in a Watershed of Western Himalayan EcoregionBy N. K. Sharma
Abstract: The study was carried out in Kalsa watershed of Western Himalayan Ecoregion to quantify the landscape structure with special reference to different forest ecosystems. Vegetation and land use map generated using satellite remote sensing data was taken as an input for quantification of landscape structure, which was quantified based on different patch attributes (number, area, shape complexity) and landscape indices viz., Euclidean nearest neighbor distance and contagion. Temperate broadleaf forest …

Conservation Prioritization using Multi-criteria Decision Model: A Case Study in Part of Western Himalayan EcoregionBy N. K. Sharma, Richa Tripathi Sharma
Abstract: Vegetation and land use map was prepared using the satellite image of IRS-1D LISS III sensor. Four vegetation types were mapped, viz., temperate broadleaf forest, temperate conifer forest, pine forest and degraded forest. Different forest types were characterized for conservation prioritization based on parameters obtained through field sampling and landscape analysis. These parameters were (i) species diversity, (ii) mosaic diversity, (iii) total plant value, and (iv) contagion. The areas of …

Geospatial Analysis of Wetlands in Jharkhand Using Multi-temporal Satellite DataBy N. K. Sharma, N. J. Kullu, P. K. Swain, A. T. Jeyaseelan
Abstract: The present study was carried out to study the wetlands of Jharkhand using pre-monsoon and post-monsoon satellite data. Different indices were used to quantify the seasonal extent of wetlands, aquatic vegetation and turbidity levels of wetlands. Wetlands occupying an area smaller than 2.25 ha were identified separately as small wetlands. The total number of wetlands identified in Jharkhand was 2436 covering an area of 1568.27 sq. km. Small wetlands were …

Geospatial Technology for Sericulture Development in Jharkhand: A Pilot StudyBy N. K. Sharma, A. T. Jeyaseelan, Ravish Kumar
Abstract: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Site suitability analysis for mulberry plantation has been carried out in Pakur and Ranchi districts of Jharkhand state, India, using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System. The study was carried out considering the need for more silk production to fill the gap between demand and supply. Cultivable wasteland was mapped as the potential area to be taken for suitability analysis. Different parameters …
