Simulation and Analysis of Sub Synchronous Resonance in a Series Compensated Transmission SystemBy Kirtan Desai, Bhargav V Patel, Chintan R Patel
Abstract: Series compensation of a transmission line is necessary as it increases the power transfer capability of a transmission line. Employing series compensation also leads to phenomenon of sub synchronous resonance (ssr) wherein the electrical and mechanical natural frequencies match and exchange energy leading to excitation of natural torsional modes of the turbine generator unit. This leads to mechanical fatigue of the shaft on which turbine and generator are connected. This …

Performance Comparison of Control Approaches for Improving Power Quality by DSTATCOMBy Kirtan Desai, Chintan Patel
Abstract: Power quality is very important consideration for electrical supply system. A number of methods like active-passive filters, dynamic voltage restorer, distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) etc; are used to compensate the power quality problems like harmonics, voltage sag and swell, load balancing and others. This paper presents performance comparison of two control strategies used for DSTATCOM to mitigate the problems of harmonics in distribution network. The DSTATCOM, a shunt connected device …
