Effect of Silicon Carbide Filler on Mechanical and Damping Behavior of Basalt/Stainless Steel Hybrid Laminated CompositesBy G Ashwin Prabhu, R Selvam, K M Kumar
Abstract: This study consolidates three experimental investigations on hybrid laminated composites reinforced with basalt fibre, stainless steel (SS) wire mesh, and silicon carbide (SiC) filler using vacuum infusion moulding. Three laminates were fabricated with filler variations of 0%, 1.5%, and 3% by weight of matrix material, maintaining a stacking sequence of [0B/0W/45B/0W/0B/45W]s with a thickness of 4–5 mm. The first investigation focused on impact strength. Drop-weight impact testing revealed a steady …

Performance Evaluation of Kevlar-Sisal-S-Glass Hybrid Composites with Ceramic Fillers for Structural ApplicationsBy V Ravi Raj, G Ashwin Prabhu, R Sanjeevi, P Ranjith Kumar, N Sivashanmugam, D Philip Selvaraj, H M Anil Kumar, S. Anandha Prabhavathy
Abstract: This study examines the mechanical properties of hybrid composite laminates reinforced with Kevlar, sisal, and S-glass fibers, and incorporating ceramic fillers—silicon carbide (SiC) and aluminum oxide (Al2O3)—within an epoxy matrix. The hand lay-up method was utilized to produce the laminates, ensuring a uniform fiber stacking sequence and including 10% filler material. Two composite variations were synthesized: one incorporating SiC and the other Al₂O₃, and both underwent tensile, flexural, hardness, and …

Dynamic Mechanical Analysis of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer CompositesBy G Ashwin Prabhu, Rajesh Sudhakar, R Sathishkumar, G M Lionus Leo, Aarsath Crisple B, Abdul Rahman A H
Abstract: This study investigates the thermal decomposition and mechanical properties of Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Composites (FRPCs) using Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA). The research focuses on improving the recycling and recovery process of Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (CFRPs), addressing environmental concerns regarding their disposal. By analyzing the effects of different heating rates (5°C and 10°C per minute) and atmospheric conditions (nitrogen, oxygen, and a combination of both), the study identifies optimal parameters for maximizing …

Mechanical Analysis and Advanced Manufacturing of Eco-Friendly Groundnut Shell Powder Reinforced Epoxy CompositesBy M Santhosh, D. Priya Matharasi, G Ashwin Prabhu, Siva M, Arivarasu M, Athithyan R
Abstract: Polymer composites reinforced with natural materials are gaining significant attention because of their eco-friendly nature, cost-effectiveness, and favorable mechanical properties. This research explores the creation and mechanical analysis of epoxy composites strengthened with groundnut shell powder (GSP), exploring both untreated and benzoyl chloride-treated GSP variations. The research emphasizes utilizing agricultural waste material while achieving enhanced mechanical properties through surface modification and advanced fabrication techniques. The composites were manufactured using the …

Evaluating The Durability and Environmental Sustainability of Hybrid Natural - Synthetic Fiber CompositesBy G Ashwin Prabhu, G Magudeeswaran, S Murugapoopathi, M Santhosh, Rahul K, Thejeshwaran S
Abstract: This study examines the characteristics of hybrid composites composed of natural fibers (such as jute, hemp, or kenaf) and synthetic fibers (such as glass or carbon) integrated within polymer matrices. The hybridization method seeks to enhance the advantages of both fiber types, hence augmenting overall performance relative to single-reinforced composites. Mechanical properties like tensile strength, flexural strength, impact resistance and hardness were evaluated through experimental tests. The results demonstrate that …

Enhancing Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Glass Fiber-Reinforced Epoxy Composites with Silicon Carbide AdditivesBy G Ashwin Prabhu, S Raja, S Murugapoopathi, M Santhosh, Aswanth Singh R, Dhanush J
Abstract: This study explores the production and characterization of glass fiber-reinforced epoxy resin composites enhanced with silicon carbide (SiC) as a reinforcing filler. The primary objective is to evaluate the impact of SiC on the mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties of the composites. Four different samples with varying SiC weight fractions (0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%) were prepared, keeping the glass fiber content constant. The composites were fabricated using a combination …

Comprehensive Experimental Analysis of the Mechanical Properties and Enhancements of Natural Fiber CompositesBy G Ashwin Prabhu, Eanest Jebasingh, Vishnu S Aher, Ameeth Basha I, A Sargunaraj, V Gopal, Pranav Raj M, Naveen Samuel N
Abstract: This research investigates the mechanical characteristics of bio-composites reinforced using jute and sisal fibers. Natural fibers have emerged as promising alternatives because of their low density, renewability, biodegradability and approving mechanical properties. The research involved fabricating bio-composite plates using the hand lay-up method with varying orientations of jute and sisal fibers. The mechanical parameters, including tensile strength, impact strength, and flexural strength, were rigorously assessed and compared across various fiber …
